A pioneering outdoor training area for visually impaired people has officially opened in Stapleford – and it’s believed to be the first facility of its kind in the UK!
Developed in partnership with Broxtowe Borough Council, Guide Dogs UK, and the Stapleford Towns Fund, the purpose-built space has been designed to safely replicate real-world road conditions. The site features tactile paving, pedestrian lights, dropped kerbs, and a variety of street elements that allow users to build confidence and independence in a controlled environment.
Alongside supporting visually impaired people, the facility will also provide local schools and sighted community members with an important learning opportunity, helping to promote awareness, understanding, and inclusivity.
