This project comprised refurbishment to the existing 1930s art deco music venue, Troxy, in Limehouse London.
The non-authentic rear wall was removed to expose the huge original stage area, behind the proscenium arch. One huge stage area with wings has been created, enabling large scale productions with rapid changeovers for concerts and award ceremonies. The stage has undergone a huge amount of work to expose the original fly tower within the original proscenium arch, not seen since the 1970s, and bring it up to date with cutting edge production.
Following a structural survey of the original stage floor, it was found that strengthening works were required to satisfy the modern loading conditions required for a stage. TSK designed and detailed the strengthening works which comprised steel beams and new timber joists.
In addition to the new larger stage, several internal alterations were made within the venue to open up the mezzanine to visitors. New structural steelwork was required to enable the removal of load bearing masonry walls.
