The two-storey stand-alone secondary school key stage 3-5 building features ten new classrooms on the first floor, with a drama studio, Sixth Form Study Centre, first aid room, toilets, changing facilities, and storage rooms on the ground floor.
Built for Carlton Academy, part of Redhill Academy Trust, and funded by Nottinghamshire County Council, the project also included additional car parking and a new external social space.
The proposed school block was on a very tight site, in a residential area located to the rear of the existing school with a steeply sloping parcel of land. In order to maximise the potential of the site, over 2500m3 of earth was removed to provide a plateaued site with integral reinforced concrete retaining walls around 2 sides of the building.
